Transition Is Not a Checkbox

Transition planning should prepare a student for life beyond the school system. It should not function as a paperwork ritual that appears in the IEP without changing the student’s preparation, supports, or opportunities.

A transition section can be present and still be weak. The question is whether the plan connects the student’s strengths, needs, preferences, interests, school routines, family concerns, and post-school goals to actual services and activities.

This principle keeps the team focused on readiness, not form completion.
